How to Exclude Internal Traffic From Your Analytics [HubSpot Tip]

Accurate data is crucial for understanding the behaviour of website visitors and analysing your website's performance. Traffic that comes from your own employees, contractors or agencies – anyone who isn't your target audience – will skew your website analytics. You can exclude this internal traffic from your data by filtering their IP addresses in HubSpot.

How to filter traffic from an IP address

Step 1: Go to Reports Settings

Select Reports > Reports Settings from the top navigation menu in HubSpot.

Step 2: Find the IP address or range you want to block

Scroll down to the IP Filtering section – the box called Exclude traffic from these IP addresses. HubSpot will tell you what your IP address is here.

If you want to filter someone else's IP address, they can find it by Googling 'what is my IP'.

If you have a dynamic IP address, you will want to block a range of addresses. To find out your IP range, ask your IT department or internet provider.

Step 3: Enter the IP address or range

Enter the IP address or range you want to filter in the text box.

To exclude an IP range, use a dash between the first and last addresses:

63.139.127.0 - 63.139.127.255

To separate different IP addresses or ranges, use a comma:

63.139.127.5, 63.139.127.23, 63.139.127.0 - 63.139.127.255

Click Save.

Conclusion

When you exclude an IP address from HubSpot's analytics it will filter out data for:

  • CTA views and clicks
  • Page visits
  • Form submissions
  • Social clicks

HubSpot doesn't exclude traffic from your analytics data retroactively, so it's best to enter the IP addresses you want to block when you first get set up.
